Lamai

Lamai is the second most popular area on Koh Samui after Chaweng. It is known for its spacious beach with golden sand, a relaxed atmosphere, and a more laid-back pace of life. Lamai attracts visitors who want to enjoy the beach while still having access to evening entertainment, but without the overwhelming crowds. The area offers a mix of budget guesthouses and luxury hillside villas with stunning sea views.

Lamai has everything needed for a comfortable stay and daily life. The town center features supermarkets, markets, cafés, and restaurants serving a variety of cuisines. You’ll also find fitness centers, yoga studios, massage parlors, and several medical clinics. The nightlife includes bars, clubs, and the famous Lamai Night Plaza market. Notable attractions in the area include the famous Hin Ta and Hin Yai (Grandfather and Grandmother) Rocks.

Lamai is located on Samui’s southeastern coast, about a 30-minute drive from the airport. The drive to Chaweng takes around 15 minutes, making it convenient for those who want occasional access to livelier areas. The area has a well-developed network of motorbike and car rentals, as well as taxis and shared songthaews, making it easy to travel around the island.
